July 30: the 24-hour full-game event

The developer announced that the full game would be free on August 1 for 24 hours, available through the official Discord before the August 7 public launch. A related Scrap Rush challenge offered three top participants a copy of the game.

Expiry warning: this was a tightly limited event, not a permanent price change. The announcement does not state a timezone in its text, and the 24-hour window may have ended when this page is read. Do not use the post as evidence that the game is currently free; verify the live Steam price and official channel.

The post also described a possible launch discount tied to Discord-member and wishlist goals. Those were conditional targets, not a guaranteed discount. The live store page checked on August 12, 2026 showed a -10% introductory offer dropping the $9.99 base price to $8.99. The August 25 recheck lists $9.99 with discount_percent=0 and no Offer ends banner; $8.99 is history.

July 28: 250,000-wishlist milestone

GRAIN ROT passed 250,000 Steam wishlists according to the official update. The post says launch was ten days away and again names August 7. This is useful as a dated community milestone, but wishlist totals do not predict review score, concurrent players or long-term population.

July 14: August 7 launch and full-release changes

The launch announcement sets August 7, 2026 as the Steam release date and says the demo had exceeded 350,000 downloads. The launch-content list includes new enemies, a boss, elite encounters, new items, elevator modifiers, Outpost NPCs, a complete 1.0 quest flow, two new biomes, player leveling, Spark abilities, an enchantment and repair machine, a second Outpost floor and more construction options.

The same list targets gamepad support, expanded game/audio/video settings, performance optimization and difficulty balancing. Because this is a dated roadmap, each item should be confirmed against the live build and patch notes before being marked as hands-on verified.

June 12: demo announcement is historical

The June 12 announcement launched a free public demo and ended the prior playtest. A later official update said the demo would remain live only through Steam Next Fest on June 22 unless the team announced otherwise.

As of the August 12 check, the current full-game Steam data no longer lists a demo. That means the June post documents what was available then; it should not be used to promise a working demo download now.

What still needs verification

• The exact timezone and final eligibility details for the August 1 event, which has now expired.
• Which July roadmap items shipped unchanged beyond the features and fixes named in the August 11 patch notes.
• Whether a demo returns later, since the current store listing does not show one.
• Post-launch plans, which the developer said would be shared later.
• Exact enemy weaknesses, drops and Outpost costs, which no official source has published.
